HOME REMEDIES FOR COUGH
Honey, a cure for cough
Our grandmothers used it as the most effective of home remedies for cough, and they were right! A study conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 showed that honey is the most effective cough medicine for children and adolescents. The study was conducted among 105 children with a very troublesome cough. The children took either a spoon of honey before going to bed, or a spoon against cough, or nothing at all. According to the results, the children in the group who took honey are the ones who coughed the least at night and therefore slept the best.
Nothing prevents adults from testing this remedy. Dosage ? Half a teaspoon for children from 2 to 5 years, a teaspoon for children aged 6 to 11 and two spoons for older children, to take as is or to add in herbal tea or warm milk. You can add cinnamon (1/4 teaspoon) to enhance the effects of honey.
Friction as a cure for cough
Gently rub Vicks-type menthol ointment onto your throat and chest. This clears your airways. If you do not have one at hand, prepare a mustard fly. Mix mustard powder with flour and cold water to form a paste. Spread this remedy on a towel that you fold in half and lay against your chest. Caution – do not apply it directly to your skin.

Humidification your bedroom
To reduce coughing during the night, make sure the air in your bedroom is moist. Pay attention to heating, when the room temperature is too high, the air becomes drier. To set up this cough remedy, install a humidifier, or a wet towel, near your bed.
Herbal teas, homemade syrups and juices
Our ancestors made herbal teas, some of which actually have antitussive action. Thyme is the best known. Example of a simple herbal tea: 3 to 4 branches of thyme to boil in 200 ml of water, remove the branches when the water turns yellow and add 1 or 2 spoonfuls of honey.
You can also try homemade syrups as home remedies for cough, such as carrot syrups. It is necessary to cut rather fine slices of carrot without removing the skin, to cover them with sugar and to let act all the night. This gives a syrup, to drink during the day. It is possible to do the same with a turnip or onion. You can also try to grate black radish and drink the juice. Last idea to try: onions peeled and cut in half on the night table. Radical against the nocturnal cough of children according to some moms!
WHERE HOME REMEDIES FOR COUGH DON’T WORK, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
However, all these remedies are recommended when a diagnosis has been made or when the cough is very recent, without any other worrying symptoms. Cough can indeed reveal a serious illness. On the other hand, a fat cough and a dry cough do not heal in the same way. It is also valid for so-called natural remedies.
In all cases, if the cough persists beyond 5 days of treatment, then you must consult your doctor to find the origin and cure the pathology that causes it.
